Nyiam Dongar Mountain, among the hills of Niyamgiri, is the sacred place of the Dongria Kondh, a tribe with its own language and culture living in the Orissa State. This mountain is also a huge deposit of bauxite (from which they extract aluminium), which is risking to be destroyed as well the people living there, because of the opening of a mine from Vedanta-Sterlite multinational company. In the former plan, the ZEN had to be one of the new residential city neighbourhoods representing a model of suitability for human living and a progress to popular housings. In 1968, after the earthquake, the Prefect requisitioned the just built apartments to give shelter to the homelesses. Those people never left and since the Seventies the houses have been illegally occupied, even before the primary facilities were realized.
