8 Mile Road by Theo Volpatti on Le Monde 2 |
Theo Volpatti has visited and photographed two worlds neighbouring and opposing each other on the threshold of 8 Mile road, in Detroit, with the two districts summarizing the situation through U.S. architectures close but antithetical; the poor and the wealthy, all aspects in a globalised world that fails to be emancipated from racial differences. For the population of Detroit, 8 Mile road is the border of the city, a sort of line without customs or block posts: beyond that road there is the outskirts of marginalized people of color, as well as all the caucasians who didn’t make it.
The images shot by Theo Volpatti have been published on Le Monde Hors Serie.
