OltreNero by Alessandro Cosmelli and Marco Mathieu
Friday, 29 May 2009
It’s hard even to define them, as they’re prompt to defy labels. They are the far right youth, a varied galaxy, although extremely reduced. Many of them don't accept the classical definition “Left/Right”: they reckon they are “beyond” or, as they say, simply “fascists”.
In order to portray them you should drop any kind of judgement or prejudice and just accept to set aside the “politically correct” category, because behind often undefendable opinions, you happen to get to know very good and warm people, who wrongfoot those who believe they are going to interact with few fanatical and violent racists.
Alessandro Cosmelli and Marco Mathieu have realized a long survey on this new Italian reality. The results have been published on the book "OltreNero - Nuovi.Fascisti.Italiani" (Contrasto editions).

"Portraits in prison" by Luigi Gariglio
Monday, 07 January 2008
Prisons are places to avoid, to forget. But what about those who live inside them? Faces of people that our society hides so that we will not see them, preferring to imagine them as inhuman monsters. Luigi Gariglio’s portraits end the prejudice that accompanies and marks these people for the rest of their lives, showing them in their utmost normality and dignity. The book has been published by Contrasto Due publishing house.

"Nero" by Francesco Cocco
Thursday, 03 January 2008
Africa lands every day on the Italian coasts, bringing a weight of desperation and hope. On these very sunny and Mediterranean lands, the earth is supported every day by the sweat of men and women. Under the sun and under inhumane conditions, an army of ghosts runs an entire economic sector, the one concerning agriculture. This book relates through exceptional images the other Italy, the one which is hidden, it shows men’s and women’s faces who bring us all the African world and other far away worlds. But they are too often cancelled by that label called “clandestine”. "Nero", which images have been shot by Francesco Cocco in collaboration with MSF, has been published by Logos publishing house.

"Viaggio Intorno a Casa" by Lorenzo Cicconi Massi
Tuesday, 01 January 2008
"Viaggio Intorno a casa" presents a selection of black and white images that are the poetic and intense interpretation of places and well-known people, yet somehow alien to the concept of space and time. The extreme usage of the black and white, the experimentation in the dark room, the visionary style and the intensity shown by Cicconi Massi throughout images of hills, glances, things and people, renews the visual tradition of Mario Giacomelli, Lorenzo Cicconi Massi's avowed guide. The book, edited by Contrasto Due publishing house, has been published in 2007.

"Dusha" by Davide Monteleone
Monday, 31 December 2007
Dusha, soul. The same root of the verb “to breathe”; as if the soul were a long breathe, a gasping attempt to survive when you feel assaulted. But dusha is also synonym of person, man. "Dusha" is the title of Davide Monteleone's endless journey throughout the immense Russia. The book, enriched with the texts by Viktor Erofeev and Margherita Belgiojoso, has been published by Edizioni Postcart Srl.
