• Eligio Paoni

Portfolio

Born in Terracina, Eligio started the activity in the Eighties travelling around the world to document wars and conflicts.
His photography has always witnessed society and the reality surrounding us. During his career he documented almost thirty years of contemporaneity among wars, natural and human disasters.
His name is inextricably linked to a specific moment of the chronicle: July 20th 2001, he’s in Piazza Alimonda, Genoa, witnessing the murder of Carlo Giuliani during the protests against the G8. The photographer was there, and close, when a gunshot kills the young man. Paoni’s only guilt was the proximity, and the fact he was holding his camera and documenting the facts. He got banged up and his camera gets smashed.
Eligio died in 2018.
