He was born in Petralia Sottana, in the province of Palermo (Sicily), in 1965.
In 1985, he began his profession with Publifoto, the most important and active photojournalism agency in Sicily. For six years, he could access the lives and realities of national and local figures, and above all with the paper L’Ora, which is an historical newspaper in Palermo and remains at the cutting edge of the Sicilian underworld.
Mafia in its many facets is Gerbasi’s main point of interest, and throughout the 90’s he gathered together many aspects: the slaughtering of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, the daily homicides, the arrests and the season of the great trials.
Gerbasi has explored the identity of his local communities as a prime interest. Palermo was and continues to be a city that offers many ways to perceive reality, and one that is perpetually more challenging and difficult.
