Born in Rome in 1966, he has been documenting wars (Europe, African, and the Middle East) and post-war transitions (Kosovo, Afghanistan, Rwanda) worldwide for over 30 years.
His work has also focused on the consequences of natural disasters such as the 2003 earthquake in Iran, the tsunami that devastated South-East Asia in 2004, and the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
He has published ten photographic books and has been awarded some of the most prestigious international prizes in the world of photojournalism, including two World Press Photo (1997 and 2011) and the Sony World Photography Awards (2011).
