Gianfranco Tripodo was born in 1981 in Manila, the Philippines.
His work seamlessly navigates between documentary and portrait photography. Raised in Naples, he obtained his degree in Media Science at the University of Bologna in 2002. Since 2005 he has lived in Madrid, Spain, where he began his photographic career. He has worked on assignment for the most prominent magazines and newspapers in the world.
He always had a genuine interest in the migratory issues and in 2010 he embarked in a documentary project aiming to record the dramatic situation of the sub-saharan migrants in Ceuta and Melilla, the two Spanish enclaves in Morocco. This work gained several prizes and recognitions like the World Press Photo – Single image, Spot News category, it was finalist of the
Prix ANI-PixPalace and it had an honorable mention at the Premio Ponchielli.
The book “DUO 04- Frontera Sur”,was finalist at the Best Photobook Award at the PhotoEspaña Festival.
Besides the editorial assignments, he regularly work with brands such as Adidas, HBO, Red Bull, Puma, Orbea, Sony Music, Universal Music among others.
